Deadly Collective at Deadly Espresso Cafe

Event Details

Stop by Deadly Espresso Café at the Eumundi Pavillion Markets on Friday, 29 September at 11 am to share a yarn, enjoy bush tucker delicacies, see some art and engage in indigenous experiences.

It’s a chance to connect with the local indigenous community and find out more about what SevGen is up to!

As an ancient culture living in modern times, we’ll explore this theme through elemental dance, didgeridoo playing and by watching the critically-acclaimed film Ten Canoes with discussions after.

Ten Canoes is a story within a story. In Australia’s Northern Territory, a man tells us one of the stories of his people and his land. It’s a story of an older man, Minygululu, who has three wives and realizes that his younger brother Dayindi may try to steal away the youngest wife. So, over a few days and several trips to hunt and gather, Minygululu tells Dayindi a story set in the time of their ancestors when a stranger came to the village and disrupted the lives of a serious man named Ridjimiraril, his three wives, and his younger brother Yeeralparil who had no wife and liked to visit his youngest sister-in-law. Through stories, can values be taught and balance achieved?

As part of the 50th anniversary of the naming of the Sunshine Coast, Eumundi celebrates its story! From 29 September to 1 October, there’s a full weekend of family-fun, community events ranging from indigenous connections and a grand parade, to music and beer celebrations, as well as ballroom dance.

As a gift for generations to come, a time capsule documenting the weekend will be buried at Eumundi State School to be opened at the 75th Anniversary.
