Timbercraftsman David Suters
David Suters is a local timber craftsman who works in harmony with
nature, drawing inspiration from the earthly beauty of natural timber.
His awe-inspiring gallery is a must-see when visiting Eumundi.
David specialises in bespoke creations using various techniques and
predominantly native Australian timbers. He aims to source wood
sustainably, often using urban pest species or salvaged timber
damaged in storms. Off cuts are used for smaller designs, ensuring
nothing goes to waste.
His work includes furniture, timber art, and sculpture, with the natural
contours and colours in the wood inspiring design, ensuring no two
pieces are ever the same. The gallery also displays work from
emerging and established guest artisans from across Australia, so it’s
worth visiting again and again.
David is a master at his craft, creating custom designed furniture and
woodworks since he left school to undertake an apprenticeship at
seventeen. That’s over 40 years! He loves the fact that his has total
control of the process, from inception to completion.
Asked why he chooses to base himself in Eumundi, David says,
“It’s the creative culture, the people and the vibe of the village.
There’s a strong timber heritage in Eumundi from the logging days.
There used to be numerous woodworkers living here, so it feels like a
natural base for me”.
David Suters Timbercraftsman Showroom Gallery (formerly Artisans
Gallery Eumundi) is open Wednesdays and Saturdays, as well as
offering private consultations by appointment.
