UNESCO Biosphere – A Haven for Wildlife

Picturesque Eumundi is nestled in stunning nature on the Sunshine Coast of South East Queensland, the only destination in the world where three UNESCO Biosphere Reserves sit side-by-side, forming a protective haven for wildlife. From the expansive green hinterland, with its picturesque organic farms, lush roaming hills and mountains, to the ancient waterways and jaw-droppingly beautiful coastline, this unique region is made for outdoor adventures and will invigorate your senses like never before. Eumundi Hiking & Biking Adventures

Eumundi is quite literally surrounded by scenic trails that offer unlimited options for hiking and biking adventures. In less that five minutes, you can be setting off on your wilderness adventure on a stroll through magnificent trees in Eumundi’s Memorial Park or sipping a sundowner while the sun sets over the roaming hills at Ball Lookout. Mount Timberwah is just fifteen minutes away for a short easy walk rewarded with  breathtaking 360 degree views of the whole coast and hinterland.

If you fancy a bit more exertion, head to the Wooroi Mountain Bike Trails which offer forest rides to suit every ability. Bikes can be hired locally from Bike On, or challenge yourself to become ‘King of the Mountain’ on  Mount Cooroora (also known as Mount Pomona). It’s a strenuous one hour hike to the top but you’ll feel a great sense of achievement when you get there and the views are magnificent. What a great way to start your day!

Noosa National Park is under thirty minutes away, with its varied expansive ocean views and wild coastline this is one adventure in nature not to miss. You’ll often see turtles from the most easterly viewpoints and it’s the perfect spot for whale watching during the season – June to October.

Surfing on the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast is synonymous with surfing,  so we can’t leave this one out!  The Noosa ‘Points’ are famous for waves that consistently break in the same speed and line and are great for beginners, if busy at times. Nearby Sunshine Beach faces east and is popular with more experienced surfers and there are numerous other breaks along the stunning coastline, with Coolum Beach being a popular choice for locals and visitors alike.  All are conveniently located less than thirty minutes drive from Eumundi.

Kayaking Adventures in the Noosa Everglades

The ancient waterways of the Noosa Everglades are also just a thirty minute drive from Eumundi and accessed from the pretty lakeside village of Boreen Point. One of just two Everglades in the world, the pristine Noosa Everglades comprise magnificents lakes and the meandering Upper Noosa River. It’s a place of serene beauty and a haven for wildlife and rare bird and plant species. Kanu Kapers offer sustainable kayaking adventures that’ll ensure you get maximum wildlife viewing without harming the delicate environment.

The lower Noosa River is also great for kayaking calmly along the bank or for for maximum adventure over to North Shore. Kayaks can be hired easily from a number of places along Gympie Terrace. 

Horse Riding on the Beach

If beach riding sounds enticing, check out Equathon who offer riding adventures along Teewah Beach on North Shore with the waves gently lapping below. Be sure to book in early as these guys are popular and the rides are awesome!

Sunshine Coast Ballooning

Based near Cooroy, Sunshine Coast Ballooning offer the best views around. This is a great way to see the region and the perfect gift if you’re feeling romantic! Drift up to the sky with a glass of champagne as you savour the stunning hinterland below.

Need an Adrenalin Fix?

If the standard thrills don’t quite hit the mark and you need an adrenalin fix, why not go gliding through the canape with Treetop Challenge Sunshine Coast near Nambour or how about doing a tandem sky dive on to a stunning white sandy beach with Sunshine Coast Skydivers

If you prefer to stay oceanside, diving with grey sharks on Wolf Rocks is truly memorable,  or go snorkelling at Point Arkright near Coolum when the sea is calm, you’ll be amazed at the abundant sea life close to shore. This is a big favourite with kids and a great family adventure activity.
