Our town is known as the Creative Heart of the Sunshine Coast for its colourful, quirky ways and bountiful artistic flair. From galleries to gift shops, and of course our markets, there is creativity everywhere. But did you know this arty passion oozes into the streets, adding vibrance to countless nooks and crannies throughout the town? Look around Eumundi and you’ll find art in many forms, from street art, to murals, sculptures, and installations. You’ll uncover works of art in the most unusual places; in alleyways, on shop walls, inside cafes and bars, and even on the bins! Eumundi Street Art Trail
The Eumundi Street Art Trail will take you through the main areas of town, so it’s a great opportunity to explore the village as well as check out the artwork.
Check out the map for locations. It’s fine to start wherever you like and town is pretty small, so an hour will probably suffice – although you will probably get distracted along the way! Just see what takes your fancy on your art discovery tour in the Creative Heart of the Sunshine Coast!
1. Sustainable – Behind the kids playground in Dick Caplick Park, you’ll find a steele-like, totemic granite mural conceived to commemorate sustainablity. Eumundi’s history as a timber town was the inspiration for this sculpture. One of Eumundi’s saw mills operated in this park. Designed by: Hew Chee Fong & LM Noonan 2014.
2. Bin Art – In the park, near the toilets. Keep your eyes peeled and you’ll see bin art throughout town. This was created during the 2017 Horizon Festival.
3. Giraffe – Our giant giraffe was made in Kenya and shipped to Australia in a 6m container to take pride of place outside Eumundi Square Markets (left corner). Don’t forget to pop into the square if you’re visiting on Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday for great stalls, live music, food, and drinks.
4. LisaSista Mural – A short wander will take you to the Eumundi RV Stopover (and main market’s carpark). Here you will find a large mural of the incredible Australian Body Art Festival.
5. ‘For You’ Sculpture – Work of local artist Meg Geer, who installed this beautiful creation in 2018. This thoughtful piece is dedicated to those who have lived through the horrors of war. It is with the innocence of children, Meg says, that those of us who have lived peaceful lives offer up our gratitude.
6. The Orb – Installed by Meg Geer and Richard Thompson in 2015 to commemorate ‘The Anzac Spirit – yesterday, today, tomorrow’.
7. Tree Spirit – Behind the pretty Eumundi Museum and home to a hive of native stingless bees! Pop into the museum to learn about Eumundi’s fascinating past.
8. Eumundi Pavilion Mural – Painted in November 2023 by Sarah Sculley.
9a-d. Original Eumundi Markets – this market area just oozes creativity so take a short stroll around the vicinity of the pink shed and you’ll find all sorts of treasures including a water bubbler by Jeff McCann (so you can refill and reduce plastic waste).
10a. The Matso Entry Mural – Designed by Kennedy Design Supply and brought to life by the INCREDIBLE duo Eleanor + Eliza from E and E Mural Co. What an amazing job they have done! Time to pop in to Matso’s for some refreshing brews and great pub food – the kids will love the beer garden too!
10b. Matso’s Indigenous Art – The Lore of the Land, 2023. By Zartisha Davis, a proud Kabi Kabi woman, artist and gifted storyteller who is continuing a rich legacy of artists and songkeepers within her family. Zartisha’s deep passion for art is a tradition passed down through generations. Her original work “The Lore of the Land” hangs proudly on our wall and tells the story of the land on which we now call home.
10c. Matso’s Alison Mooney 2024 Mural – a tribute to the inland adventures she’s shared with her son, capturing the beauty of the Sunshine Coast’s national parks, waterfalls, and hidden gems. Designed as a digital collage and hand-painted over five days, it features Buderim Waterfall, Mount Ninderry, sugar cane fields, and ingredients from Matso’s brews.
11a-b. Mort Murray Murals – On the sides of Berkelouw Cafe and The Bake House you will find two impressive large murals on the walls by Mort (John) Murray and Vicki Murray. The image for 11a was taken when the Channel 7 crew were filming the trail. If you’re in need of a delicious snack or refreshing drink, pop into the bakery before you move on or call in to the coast’s best bookshop, Berkelouw Books.
12. Pipe Wall – A couple of steps away, the Pipe Wall at the side of Pearls for Girls brings yet another artistic delight to our main street. Pop into the shop to find some unique gifts, many created by local artisans.
13. ‘Betsy’ Piano – Our famous ivories are located at the front of The Imperial Hotel and all yours to tinkle with. Created by awesome local artist Rene McGovern for your visual and acoustic delight. Go on, have a play!
14. Jack’s Dogs – Painted by Mort Murray for Jack, who simply loves dogs! You’ll find it on the shop wall – behind The Imperial Hotel.
