The Eumundi Markets are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and reinvesting in the local community. From plastic-free trading to on-site solar power, sustainability is built into how the markets operate every market day.
Plastic Free Eumundi Markets
The Eumundi Markets are a plastic-free market, with all stallholders required under their stallholder agreement to use compostable or reusable packaging. This commitment extends across every stall on every trading day, helping keep single-use plastic out of our community and waterways.
Pottery for the Planet
Discover beautiful, functional plastic free creations, handcrafted on the Sunshine Coast by skilled local artisans.
Refillable Water Stations
Three water refill stations are installed across the markets, with a further station planned for installation over the next 12 months, encouraging visitors to bring and refill their own bottles rather than purchasing single-use plastic bottles.
Containers for Change
The Eumundi Markets participate in Containers for Change, Queensland’s container refund scheme, giving visitors and stallholders an easy way to recycle eligible drink containers on-site.
Solar Power and Renewable Energy
On-site solar panels reduce the markets’ reliance on the grid, with an estimated 20% of power needs met through solar – supported by the natural cooling of our heritage fig tree canopy, which reduces the need for mechanical cooling across the site. Solar is also in place at Eumundi Square.
Waste Reduction
The removal of single-use plastic cups reduced weekly waste collection from 27 bins to 17 – a 37% reduction – with stallholders required to remove their own waste from site, and at least one food stallholder diverting organic waste to a local farmer rather than landfill.
